The Forest of Tomorrow
The rain that is always beautiful
on leafless ground
became a flood,
became a bloody torrent.
The roots hidden beneath the soil
have taken the hands of the soil in their hands,
the hands of the soil,
each other’s hands,
and the fruitful earth.
Come again:
little squirrels!
little hoopoes!
Come again!
A forest with these roots
Critics on Sima Yari’s poetry
More →Sima Yari’s skill lies in creating a world in which people do not seek to compete with one another or to prove their superiority, a world in which even objects come alive in humane and loving relationships. (2003)
Sima Yari maintains the music and balance of her poems. She has a precise eye, and although the ground of meaning of many of her poems is the ordinary matter of life, she has found a simple, eloquent language suited to that ground.
Ms Yari, I visited your page. There is a special calm in the reader’s voice, in the music, and in the sound of the words; yet the meaning of the words and their message stir a different passion in the reader (or listener). In other words, your work combines at once a pleasing simplicity and an alarming complexity, and as far as I know this is a rare quality.
